Built an end-to-end service marketplace where consumers post projects and verified contractors bid for work. The platform features a complex membership system with tiered access, a project bidding engine with monthly connects, and integrated payments via PayPal and Stripe. It includes real-time notifications, private messaging, and a comprehensive review system to ensure trust and transparency.

The challenge

The primary challenge was balancing the needs of two distinct user groups—consumers wanting quick help and contractors seeking quality leads. We needed to implement a fair bidding system with usage limits (Connects) and a sophisticated membership model that rewards high-quality providers while maintaining a low barrier to entry for new users.

How I approached it

• →Bid & Proposal Engine: Developed a transactional bidding system that manages "Connects"—a virtual currency for contractors—with automated monthly allowance resets and usage tracking.
• →Membership Gating: Implemented a granular role-based access control (RBAC) system that dynamically adjusts profile visibility and feature access based on the user"s subscription tier.
• →Search & Discovery: Engineered a multi-level category and subcategory filtering system with optimized SQL queries and SEO-friendly URLs to improve organic reach.
• →Payment Infrastructure: Integrated both PayPal and Stripe for seamless subscription handling and credit purchases, with robust error handling and webhook reconciliation.
